Pondicherry – “The new village”

It was Pondycherry this time from my list of places that I was planning to travel .And I decided that I will visit my friend Vidya’s family at Chennai too with this trip .They were also excited to visit Pondy.
I started on Friday 16th March night to Chennai by the night train service from Bangalore to Chennai .Reached Chennai at 6 am next day morning. Went to Vidi’s (I call Vidya like that) place, seeing her family after a long time after they shifted from Trivandrum .We started at 10 30 am from Annanagar in her car .I can say it was my first time that I drove in a smooth and clear road like this .We were traveling at 100- 125 kmph at many a times. Didn’t have that much breaks, it was direct drive to Pondycherry. You can really feel that are not in Tamilnadu state once you enter pondy. One of the reason can be the number of political poster’s getting reduced. And also the buildings there had a different style of construction. I had arranged our accommodation at the international Guest house by the Aurobindo society .A very cheap and clean place to stay .

After lunch we visited the puducherry (the new name to Pondycherry) museum. It really had a good collection of antiques and furniture used by the governor ruling this place long back .Pondy was a huge trading place at that time and mostly the French people used to stay here. Then we visited the beach nearby .The beaches are really clean and the tourist were really enjoying the swim in the hot evening. The day ended with a little bit of shopping near the MG road .
The next day started a bit late mainly because all were a bit tired with the drive from Chennai to pondy. We planned to visit ‘AUROVILLE’, the village that is build for the human unity .It a huge village and a good collection of meditation centers, shopping place, French food .They had a very good museum showing some good photographs and videos. Afternoon we decided to drive back to Chennai .On the way we were able to cover Mahabalipuram and crocodile bank at Adayar. It was a good idea from vidi’s mom to visit that too on the way back to Chennai.
